A new report from the Arab Advisors Group explores the investment and venture capital landscape in the Arab World. The report provides an overview of 25 VC firms and angel groups in the Arab World. It highlights a potential gap in the stages of funding covered by venture capital firms; as more focus is put on early stage and seed funding than late stage funding.
The Venture Capital landscape in the Arab World has grown over the past few years. There are now more VCs and investment firms in the region compared to five years ago. Investors are increasingly showing interest in funding and supporting technology startups in the region, given their potential in providing solutions to some of the toughest economic problems faced by the Arab World.
The report shows that the UAE is the most developed Arab country in terms of the number of investment and VC firms which have chosen to set up in the country. Furthermore, it is the country where start-ups can grow and scale relatively easily. Apart from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Morocco are countries with high potential for start-up investment.
The Arab Advisors Group analyzed the investment and venture capital landscape in the Arab World, by considering the profiles of 25 VC firms and angel groups that operate in the region. “There appears to be a gap in late stage funding in the Arab World, with a focus on seed and early stage funding. Given the fact that the VC landscape has yet to achieve a level of maturity compared to that of the U.S as an example, it is only natural to see a trend towards more late stage funding of start-ups in the future. ” Ms. Lara Nassar, Arab Advisors Group Research Analyst commented
